John Warthan Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Ladson on Sep. 4, 2024.
John "Scott" Warthan was one of the good ones! A devoted husband, loving father, brother, and caring friend. Scott passed away on September 1, 2024, after battling cancer for the second time. He was born July 23, 1963, in Ft. Wayne, IN but spent most of his youth in CA and on the west coast. He is preceded in death by his parents John Warthan and Sharon Lockwood Baldwin
If Scott were here today, he would tell you two things; first, "Don't cry for me! I am far better off than the rest of you, because I am home now, and you are stuck here dealing with the mess this world is in!" and the second is "You aren't promised tomorrow, better get your heart right with Jesus!" He was a man that did everything full throttle, never half-hearted! He loved helping other people. He spent countless hours lending tech support to his church family. Teaching others his skills and passions were another great joy. He enjoyed teaching CWP classes with his pal Shawn and scuba diving with his best friend Rusty, where he was able to log over 500 dives in the last 4 years! He served his country with great pride in the US Army before retiring in 2013 as a Staff Sergeant. During his long military career, he made countless friends and was able to make a great impact on those he served with.
His greatest love was his wife, Christi. He would tell anyone he met that she and God saved his life the first time he had cancer 13 years ago. His daughters, Heather and Morgen, along with his grandkids Isabelle and Oliver rounded out his circle of happiness. They were the reason he got up each day and why he hated so badly to leave when the cancer came back a second time.
Scott leaves behind a long legacy of love, friendship, mentorship, Christian faith and an example of what we could all hope to someday be. He is survived by his loving wife Christi Dangerfield Warthan of N. Charleston, 2 daughters, Heather Christine Dangerfield of N. Charleston, Morgen Leigh Warthan of N. Charleston, 2 grandchildren, Isabelle Elizabeth Brown of Houston, TX and Oliver Scott Kavanaugh of N. Charleston, a sister Samantha McGee (Calvin) of Swansea, SC as well as lots of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and several others he thought of as his own children.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Northwood Baptist Church 2200 Greenridge Rd N Charleston, SC 29406 on Saturday September 14, 2024. Friends may visit with the family at 11am and the service will be at 12pm (noon). The family will have a reception at the home of Scott and Christi Warthan immediately following the service at 2390 Storen St. N Charleston SC 29406.
In lieu flowers the family ask that you consider donating to the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston RMHCharleston.org as much as Scott hated having cancer, he hated the thought of a child suffering even more. It was his wish that other would give to the kids and not him.
