Ryan Ivan Ward

Ryan Ivan Ward, age 49, passed away unexpectedly following surgery on February 10, 2025. He was born on January 14, 1976 in Cedar City, Utah to Penny and Gerald Ward. They were thrilled at his arrival to have their "little red headed boy" that was named after his grandpa Ivan.
Ryan was such a happy little boy. He would belt out a song and perform any chance that he had. He could tell a joke better than most stand up comedians and started doing that about the time he could talk. His sense of humor was contagious and he had that throughout his life. Most of us have a funny story we could share about Ry.
Ryan was always so intelligent. He graduated from Pine View High School in 1994, then went on to Southern Utah University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice. He was an assistant Professor and was on the deans list every semester. He went on to attend law school at California Western in San Diego where he received a scholarship for innovative thinking. He graduated with a Jurisprudence Doctorate degree.
Ryan moved to St George, Utah after graduating where he was married and started practicing law. He later divorced but practiced law there for several years.
Ryan was very proud that he was a member of the Utah Army National Guard for six years. He was a patriot and loved his country. He received many awards and recognitions for his services to our country. He wanted to be an officer but due to an eye tumor, he could not fulfill that goal.
Ryan had health struggles throughout his life but despite that he managed to persevere and press on. He was a tough man and one of the most resilient people you will ever meet. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Ryan would also know that he would give the shirt off his back even if he had nothing.
Ryan will be missed by so many that knew him. His friends all considered him a brother, nieces and nephews adored him, and family that loved him deeply. He had two dogs that will greet him on the other side, Brutus and Machi. He is preceded-in-death by his beloved mother, a nephew and a grand niece. Ryan is survived by his father, Gerald Ward, three siblings: Lori (Kevin) Guyton, Holly (Bill) Ickes, Derrick (Cori) Ward, and many nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his little dog, Leroy, that he loved so much he referred to him as his son.
Ryan will be laid to rest next to his mother in the springtime where there will be a celebration of life and dedication of the grave.
