John Edward Welsh

John worked with us at APG for several summers a long time ago. He was willing to do any task that was asked of him with a smile. We missed him when the summer program ended. He was a great person Blessings to his family

Mr. Welsh. One of the all time greats at John Carroll, and a part of the fabric that makes the school so special. What a wonderful Dean of Men, coach, and teacher. Father of a wonderful family. My condolences to each of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My condolences to the family. Mr. Welsh was one of my favorite teachers and coaches during my years at John Carroll. As the Dean of Men, I remember on several occasions Mr. Welsh walking the hallways shuffling his stack of detentions and demerits like playing cards. As the assistant football coach, during summer practices, practice would always end with Mr. Welsh shouting, "Take a safari" which meant take a lap around the outer fence of the track. Rest in peace Mr. Welsh, you will be missed.

Mr. Welsh was a great man. My brother John Brennan was coached by Mr. Welsh in football. John always had such nice things to say about him. He cared so much for the students. Mr. Welsh seemed to know everyone. Imagine my delight when, as a shy freshman girl, he said "Good Morning, Cathy" to me in the hall. I couldn't imagine how he knew my name, but I walked a little taller because he did!! A man of faith, friendship, integrity and honor. A fabulous legacy for a fabulous man.

John was a gentle soul, a coach who encouraged his players, a caring teacher, a loving father and husband. John was a giant in so many more ways than just his size. Our friendship of many years is one of my life's fondest memories.

I really loved having Mr. Welsh as my football coach at JC. He was a man of few words at times, but he had the kind of presence that spoke where the words were not needed. I can still picture him jogging around the JC track back in the day. I think the legacy of his family speaks volumes about the kind of gentleman he was.

Mr. Welsh reminded so much of my father. He always seemed to genuinely care about you and how you were doing. As such, I always had tremendous respect for him and greatly appreciated his guidance. He had a terrific presence and a smile that could light up a room. One wanted to hear what he had to say because he always had an informed, patient perspective and always gave you the truth. I'm sure the Welsh family will miss him immensely but will also carry on his inspiration. We were blessed to have him with us.

I sm so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories from my classes with Mr. Welsh, especially the field trip to the detention center, lol. Hope JC still does this one. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. He was a great guy.

I wa so saddened to hear the news of the untimely passing of John Welsh. He was one of my most favorite teachers. Classes were always fun, interesting and always among the most popular He was the one who planted the idea in my mind that I could go on to study Economics which I did. This is a great loss. My heartfelt condolences to his family. (Bev Norton - class of 1968).

The John Carroll community and our world has truly lost a tremendous legend, and a terrific man who touched and influenced so many people during his time with us. Our prayers go out to the Welsh family, and for his soul in his heavenly reward. God bless, Michelle (Goldbeck) and Ken Reuwer.

John & I were fellow teachers at John Carroll from 1967-1970. We were both new and we quickly became fast friends. I shared their happiness when they bought their new home on Scarlet Oak Court back in about 1968. Suzie & John had me over for dinner many times during those years - I have never forgotten their kindness.
John's legacy as a friend, teacher, coach, and as a compassionate man will live on in all the lives that he touched
