John Wiggins Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 20, 2025.
On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, John Wiggins (Johnny) spread his wings to join his heavenly father. John passed away peacefully at his home in Selbyville, Delaware, surrounded by family members.

John was born on September 1, 1941, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to John Lawton and Esther L. Wiggins. He was the middle of three children. John graduated from Chattahoochee High School, received an AA degree from Florida State University, and went on to join the United States Air Force, where he served his country with pride. After his military service, he received his commercial pilots license, met and married Carolyn "Lynn" Rodgers of Yazoo, Mississippi, and together they had three sons: Gavin, Garrett, and Craig.

Later in life, John met the love of his life, Sally Hart, in California and they married in 1999. Their marriage brought with it a wonderful son and daughter-in-law, Bret and Melinda Wilson.

Throughout his career, John held several professions, including serving as a Florida State Trooper for the Florida Highway Patrol and the Nevada Highway Patrol. He also held numerous positions within the insurance industry. John retired after a surgical error led to a lifelong paraplegic condition.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Shelly, and his grandson Johnny. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Hart; his sons and their spouses: Gavin and Ali Wiggins of Marianna, Florida; Garrett and Melinda Wiggins of Summersville, Missouri; Bret and Melinda Wilson of Berlin, Maryland; and Craig and Hazel Wiggins of Dothan, Alabama. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Sarah Canfield of South Carolina, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

To know John (Johnny Wiggins) was to love him. Anyone who knew him would agree that he had a likeable and magnetic personality that captivated people almost immediately. His consistently positive attitude and affable nature will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
