CROFTON, MD - John T. (Jack) Williams passed away on July 20, 2023 surrounded by his family. Jack was born in the Whitestone neighborhood of Queens in New York City on February 5, 1934 to Aloysius J. and Isabelle (Flynn) Williams, the oldest of three children. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management from Columbia University in 1958 and an MBA from New York University in 1964. He worked in the home building industry for nearly forty years. Jack married Shirley Panton on April 28, 1963 at St. Gregory the Great Parish on New York City’s Upper West Side and together they had three children. Jack had a strong sense of civic duty and was very active in the Crofton community especially in the Crofton Athletic Council. He served in many roles as a coach, umpire, referee, equipment manager, and eventually as its president. He received the “Cardinal of the Year” award twice for his efforts on behalf of the community’s youth. Jack was also a devout Catholic and primarily attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish where he served in many capacities. However, his lasting legacy is as chair of the finance campaign, which enabled the congregation to construct its own church building, obtain its stain glass windows, and its tower bell. In his spare time, Jack was an avid gardener and the beautifully landscaped yard and patio that he designed will remain a tribute to his passion.
Jack was a devoted husband and father. He spent countless hours on the sidelines cheering on his children in their athletic endeavors or supporting their various clubs and activities. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Shirley (Panton) Williams, his children, Margaret (Williams) Levine, Douglas Williams, and Bronwyn Williams, his son-in-law, Dr. John Levine, his grandchildren, Seth, Sam, Jake, and Eli Levine, and his sister, Mary Dale (Williams) Esposito. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Isabelle (Flynn) Williams, and his brother, Robert Williams.
Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 1800 Seton Drive, Crofton, MD. Visitation will begin at 10:00am and a funeral mass will take place at 11:00am. The burial will follow at 1:00pm at Meadowridge Cemetery, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s honor can be made to Catholic Charities at cc-md.org.
