John J. Workman

John J. Workman, age 91, passed away at home on March 05, 2024. He was born in Muskegon, MI on February 14, 1933. John met his first love, Marilyn Dunning, while attending Western Michigan Christian School and married her on April 4, 1952. They were married for 40 years. After Marilyn's passing, John met Carol Vander Veen and they were married on October 15, 1994, and celebrated 27 years of marriage. John worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years and then opened his own printing shop, Workman Printing, which he ran for 50 years. He was a member at East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church and later at Grace Christian Reformed Church. He was always active on his many projects, building, gardening, bird watching, and enjoying the view at West Lake. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Beth (Chuck) Tornga, Bob (Teresa) Workman, and Jim (Linda) Workman; three bonus children, Marlin (Beth) Leonard, Shelley (Doug) Witte, and Kimberly Shunk, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren as well as his sister, Carolyn Wassenaar. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Wilhelmina (Poel) Workman, his first wife Marilyn (Dunning) Workman, second wife Carol (Vander Veen) Workman, and sisters June Breuker and Ruth Elve. A memorial service will be at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services on March 9, 2024, at 1:00 PM with Rev. John DeBoer officiating. Visitation with his family will begin at noon. Burial will take place in Restlawn Cemetery, Muskegon MI. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Muskegon Christian School or Western Michigan Christian High School.
