I met John while working at Cybermation and he recommended me to Apollo where he was working. My family ended up located where we still are today due to John's sound advice.
Among my fond memories was the fact that John kept using a special "April 1st" version of the DSEE program that I shipped long after it should have been taken out of service. All of the text had been filtered to be politically incorrect, including prompts, etc. He just couldn't stop using it...
Only time can soften this blow...

John and I both worked at Digital in the early 1980s in the Technical Languages group. We both lived across the road in the Oak Hill apartment buildings, he in an upstairs unit and I in a downstairs one. We were both named "John" but nobody confused me with the lively, outgoing, and energetic John S. He had many stories. One I remember is that when he was a child he wanted more orange juice than the one little glass he got at breakfast, so now that he was an adult, he bought high-quality orange juice and could drink as much as he wanted.

John was always my go to guy for tech help. I cannot remember how many times I called him when I messed up my computer. Every time he was so patient with we, he had a lot of patience. He was always fixed my problem. And he made it seem so easy. Every time I open my computer I think of him.
