From Richard E.Sytsma to all of you in John's family--please accept my heartfelt sympathy. John was like a big brother to me. He was one year ahead of me at the Christian Academy in Japan. We overlapped at CAJ from 1952-1959. We had many classes together, played basketball together, and at Calvin College we were housemates during the 1961-1962 academic year. We attended Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids together and were both very involved in the young people's group of that church in our college years. John's love of Jesus, his youthful maturity, and our friendship are some of my most cherished memories. He was one of God's most precious gifts to me in my youth.

I send my condolences to John´s family. I remember John very well from our days at CAJ and Calvin. John attended Bethel Church with my brother, Rich and me during our Calvin years.
