John Richard Young

John Richard "Rich" Young, 87, of Washington, died Friday, November 21, 2025, in Townview Health And Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was born September 23, 1938, in Washington, a son of the late Howard W. and Lola Warrell Young. Rich was a 1956 graduate of Trinity High School and then attended Penn Commercial. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a highway foreman until his retirement. He then mowed lawns for his neighbors. Rich was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927 in Washington. He was also a member of the Washington Moose Lodge #22. On November 15, 2023, he married Karen Dunkle. Mrs. Young survives. Deceased are two former spouses, Connie VonScio and Karen Bedillion. Also surviving are a daughter, Jody (Jerry) Fonner of Middleport, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Dayna (Brian) Chandler of Leland, N.C.; a sister, Evelyn (William) Ruschel of Washington; three grandchildren, Chris and Nick VonScio, Melanie (Vinny) Karalus; a stepgrandson, Bradey Toland; and three great- grandchildren, Jessa, Juliet and John Luke Karalus. Deceased are a son, Keith Richard VonScio; three brothers, Donald Young, Robert Young and Howard Young; and three sisters, Shirley Burns, Lois Young and Louise Yoder. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 Wednesday, November 26.
