Johnny Rufus Choate, a beloved member of the Stilwell, OK community, passed away on February 15, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on December 15, 1947, in Kansas City, KS, Johnny was the son of Rufus and Jewel (Leatherwood) Choate.

Johnny was a man of many passions and talents. He had a deep love for cooking, delighting friends and family with his delicious meals. He also had a knack for working on Ford trucks, spending countless hours tinkering with engines and ensuring they ran smoothly. Known for his giving and caring nature, Johnny touched the lives of many through his generous and compassionate spirit.

For over 30 years, Johnny dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community as a law enforcement officer. He proudly served as a deputy marshal for Cherokee Nation, continually striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those he encountered. Johnny's dedication and commitment to justice will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Johnny is fondly remembered by his daughters, Peggy Tilghman and her husband Keith and Michelle Daniels. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jaqueline Mize, Daeton Dry, Kaitlyn Pickett, Amanda Mays, James Mays, Mason Daniels, and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind his niece, Mary Dry.

To honor the life of Johnny Choate, his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at Hart Funeral Home in Stilwell on February 21, 2024. A public viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, allowing loved ones to pay their respects and reminisce on the cherished memories they shared with Johnny. Following the viewing, a funeral service will commence at 1:00 pm, offering an opportunity for all to come together and reflect on the remarkable life he lived.

Lastly, in accordance with Johnny's wishes, he will be laid to rest at Dwight Mission Cemetery in Marble City, OK. It is here that his spirit will find eternal peace and his memory will be forever honored.

Johnny Rufus Choate will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and commitment to his community will continue to inspire and influence the lives of those he touched.
