John David Heinecke, known affectionately as "Johnny" to his friends and loved ones, passed away on
March 25, 2025, in
Kingsland, Texas. Born on September 20, 1935, in Houston, Texas, Johnny lived a
vibrant life filled with love, adventure, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, courage, and
an unyielding zest for life.
Family was the cornerstone of Johnny's world. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 46 years, Patricia
Heinecke, who stood by his side as a loving partner in many of life's adventures. His love for her was
indescribable. Together, they built a family that includes their children John Heinecke, Sandra Bowen
and her husband Ray, Ronny Heinecke, and Larry Skero with his wife Julie. He was also a proud brother
to Linda Johnston and her son Mark. His role as a grandfather brought him immense happiness. He will
be lovingly remembered by his grandsons Shane Bowen, Bradley Bowen and his wife Sarah, Michael
Heinecke, Zachary Heinecke, and Austin Skero who will forever hold their grandfather's bold spirit and
tender heart as well as his granddaughters, Michelle Anderson and husband, Chad and Ashlynn Skero.
He also had a special love for his great grands, Riley and Stella Bowen, Molly and CJ Anderson. Bo
Hodges, Johnny's caretaker and "little buddy" became an extended part of the family, providing
companionship and care during his later years. The bond they shared was a testament to Johnny's ability
to touch the lives of those around him. Johnny's life was further enriched by the presence of numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends and extended family members.
After graduating from Jeff Davis High School in the Houston Heights, Johnny's adventurous spirit led him
to serve his country with honor. As a Korean War Veteran from 1952 to 1955, he not only earned a
Medal of Honor but also made his mark as a paratrooper and a boxer in the Army. His bravery and
dedication during his service were a testament to his character. Upon returning to civilian life, Johnny
continued his commitment to public service as a Deputy Motorcycle Sheriff, where he protected and
served his community with the same valor he showed in the Army.
Johnny's entrepreneurial spirit shone through as the owner of JDH Construction, where he applied his
work ethic and leadership skills to build a successful business. As some would say, he built a compound
for he and his wife and their family to enjoy. His professional accomplishments, however, were just one
aspect of his multifaceted life.
Passionate about the outdoors, Johnny was happiest when he was fishing, golfing, or hunting. His love
for storytelling was legendary, and he had a knack for sharing jokes, sometimes with a naughty twist,
that could light up any room. He also cherished boat rides with his grandchildren, creating memories
that will be treasured for generations to come.
Perhaps one of the most defining aspects of Johnny's life was his lifelong passion for drag boat racing.
He owned and even drove several drag boats over the years that brought him true joy. His daredevil
character found its perfect outlet in the thrilling sport, and he approached each race with the same
fearlessness and enthusiasm that he brought to every other facet of his life.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and John Heinecke, and son, Ronny, who instilled
in him the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness. These values were evident in every relationship
he nurtured and in every endeavor he pursued.
As we bid farewell to Johnny, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by courage, humor, and an
unwavering commitment to his loved ones. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his
spirit will continue to inspire us every day. Johnny's story is one of a life fully embraced, a narrative of a
man who truly loved his people and made the most of every moment given to him.
John David Heinecke's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony, reflecting his wishes. He will be
laid to rest with the dignity and respect befitting a man of his stature. As the sun sets on a life so brightly
lived, we take comfort in the knowledge that Johnny's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who
loved him and in the countless lives he touched with his extraordinary presence.
