Johnny Lee Halfpenny Aka Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel on Dec. 3, 2025.
Johnny Lee Halfpenny (aka Johnson)
January 16, 1969 – November 18, 2025
The Halfpenny family is sad to announce the passing of Johnny Halfpenny on November 18, 2025 in Salinas, California.
Johnny was born to Jerry and Suzen (nee Rathburn) Johnson in 1969 in Upland, California. His mother relocated the family to Salinas when John was 9 years old where she met and married Doctor Norman Halfpenny. During his life in Salinas, Johnny attended Monterey Park Elementary School, Washington Jr. High School and Salinas High School. He was married for 10 years and had a beautiful son Zachary in 1994, who he raised as a single dad. Johnny found a career as a land surveyor and worked in that field for the past 25 years. For the past 8 years he lived with his mother and was her primary caregiver in addition to working at Landset Engineers.
John was larger than life. He had a gregarious, fun personality and had a big booming voice. He had a deep, infectious laugh that could be heard over all others. He had a beautiful voice and he loved to sing. As a young man, he regularly sang at karaoke shows around Monterey. At any given time, he could be heard belting out songs at home, work or anywhere that it struck him. He was also a big movie buff and could, and did, accurately quote lines from every movie he saw. In addition to movies John was a big music fan. He loved attending rock concerts and his wardrobe was primarily made up of the t-shirts he collected. John was also a diehard Raider's fan, even through their relocations, and enjoyed watching football games with his friends. And, of course, collecting Raider's t-shirts.
John was a self-described "foodie" who enjoyed cooking and eating in equal measure. His favorite thing was sharing the meals he cooked with his family, his friends, and his co-workers.
John is survived by his son, Zachary Halfpenny, his daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn, his grandson, Jaxson, his mother, Suzen Halfpenny, his father, Jerry Johnson, his sister, Dani Johnson and her children Hannah and River, and his stepsiblings, Debbie, Pam, Kim, Jeff and Jim Halfpenny. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Norman Halfpenny.
John was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, nephew and friend. He will be deeply missed by all of us whose lives he touched. He will always be remembered laughing, singing, quoting movies and song lyrics, and cooking for his friends and family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St. Salinas, Ca. 93901 on 11:00a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Dear Halfpenny family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I knew John as a young man when I worked with him over 30 years ago. John had such a vibrant good hearted personality. He entertained us with his movie quotes and songs done in the voices of the actors and singers. Zachary was just a baby and was John's pride and joy.
