Johnny Martinez

Johnny B. Martinez,76, a resident of Buena Vista, New Mexico, passed away on February 5, 2026. He was born in Buena Vista on October 29,1949. Johnny was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Antonio and Filomena Esquibel; great-grandparents, Perfecto and Tonita Valerio; his parents, Benito and Laura Martinez; his sister, Dolores Martinez; his nephew, Ronald Martinez, and his son, Steve Martinez

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruby Martinez; his daughter, Jessica Medina; his sons: Johnny Martinez (Sandra) and Joseph "Jojo" Martinez; his brother, Larry Martinez (Henrietta); and nieces June and Desiree (Brad); niece, Roberta Padilla (and family); and his sister, Patsy Martinez (Panchito). He is also lovingly remembered by his 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Johnny deeply valued time with his family and found happiness in the things he loved most, including music, fishing, and spending time in the mountains.

A rosary will be held at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at the church on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the burial in Buena Vista, NM. A meal will be provided at the Buena Vista Fire Department immediately following the burial.

Serving as pallbearers will be Edward Trujillo, Patrick Trujillo, Steve Martinez, Derrick Martinez, Johnny Martinez Jr., and Daniel Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Medina and Jojo Martinez. Johnny will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
