Lincolnton - Mr. Johnny Edgar Rhodes, Jr., 81, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, joining his wife, Kathy Engle Rhodes who passed away just a little over twelve hours earlier in the room they shared at the hospice house.
Johnny was born on April 11, 1944 in Lincoln County, NC a son of the late Johnny Edgar Rhodes, Sr. and Mary Ethel Hull Rhodes. He retired after 23 years from Freightliner. Johnny was a member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church in Crouse. He was also a member of the Pine Ridge Hunt Club and served as president. Among the many sayings Johnny was known for, one of his favorites was "if I had a dozen roses, you would get them."
In addition to his wife, Kathy, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Rhodes, Louise Church, Jane Causby and a brother, Ralph Rhodes.
Survivors include his three sons, Brad Rhodes and wife Billie; Johnny "Traye" Rhodes and wife Sylvia all of Lincolnton; Chad Reynolds and wife Jennifer of Maine; a daughter, Debbie Hall and husband J.L. of Galax, VA; a sister, Fran Keever Gibson (Pastor Ken Gibson) of Lincolnton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 11:45AM on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
A service to celebrate Johnny & Kathy's life will held at 12:00PM on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Lincolnton with the Rev. Jeff Rhodes officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
