D.Z. "Johnny" Roberts, 78. of Harmony, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Gordon Hospice House, on June 27, 2025, following a brief illness.
Born on February 24, 1947, in Grayson County, Virginia, he made a significant mark on the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.Johnny retired from a fulfilling career in long distance truck driving and dispatching, where he demonstrated not only his dedication to hard work but also his love for the open road. His passion for trucking extended beyond work; he found joy in gathering with friends to discuss the intricacies of their shared trade, often punctuated by his great sense of humor that brought lightness to conversations.
Throughout his life, Johnny nurtured a variety of interests and hobbies. He was an avid reader with a particular fondness for the Bible, westerns, history, and spy novels. His time spent at Holly Springs Baptist Church held great significance to him, and he attended as long as his health allowed. Johnny also enjoyed watching sports and classic westerns, playing Solitaire, and tending his garden, which served as a reflection of his nurturing spirit.
Johnny is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Colleen Allen Roberts; three sons, Zane Roberts, Matthew Stevenson (Shae), and Gregg Stevenson (Michelle); a daughter, Amy Beamer (Richard); eight grandchildren, Logan, Carrie, Samara, Jason, Reagan, Christian, Reilly, and Josey; two great-grandchildren, Barrett and Cansas; a brother, Bill Roberts; sister-in-law, Jowanna Roberts; sister-in-law Judy Daniels; brother-in-law Buddy Allen (Gayle); sister-in-law Marcia Parise (Nick). He also leaves behind special friends, Greg Miles and Ronald and Rose Millsaps, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss his warm presence.
He was predeceased by his father, Camet Roberts; mother, Eva Coleman Roberts; brother, Joe Roberts; brother-in-law Roger Daniels and his precious fur baby, Princess. Johnny’s legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
A visitation will be held at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Harmony, NC, on June 30, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM, with the Rev. Dr. Cliff Gwaltney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Johnny's family invites all who knew him to come together to honor his memory and celebrate the remarkable life he led.
