Florentino Gomez Torrez, Jr., known affectionately to many as Johnny, passed away peacefully at his home in
Palestine, Texas, on Friday, the 18th day of April 2025, at the age of 60. Born on the 31st day of October 1964, to parents Florentino "John" Gomez Torrez and Doris Rene Roberson, Johnny spent his entire life in the tight-knit community that he so deeply cherished and contributed to throughout his years.
Mr. Torrez was a man whose reputation was built on the solid foundation of hard work and dedication, values that he not only embodied but also imparted to his children. As the owner and operator of Johnny Mobile Home Transport Service, he became a well-known figure in the industry, recognized for his meticulous attention to detail and the passion he put into his work. Johnny's work ethic was unparalleled, and it was a common sight to see him working long hours to ensure that every task was completed to the best of his ability. He was an individual who took great pride in his work, and this trait was evident in the success and reputation of his business.
Beyond his professional life, Johnny was a family man at heart. His love for his family was immense, with his grandchildren holding a particularly special place in his life. He devoted countless hours to being with them, creating memories that will be cherished for generations to come.
Those who knew Johnny best would describe him as selfless, generous, and thoughtful. He was a man who lived not for himself but for others, constantly seeking ways to contribute to the happiness and well-being of those around him.
Mr. Torrez is preceded in death by his parents John and Doris Torrez, and his beloved sons, Mark Torrez, Matthew Torrez and Brandon Cole Torrez.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of crossing paths with him, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind his daughter, Crystal Torrez; sons, James Torrez, John Torrez, Walter George; sister, Linda Potts; and his brothers, Jerry E. Torrez and wife Michele, and Carlos Torrez. Mr. Torrez is also survived by his grandchildren, Marleigh Jean Torrez, Macie Lynn Torrez, Raymond Clyde Torrez, Breanna Preisner, Jordan Sullivan, Elijah Dickson, Esperanza Torrez, Santiago Rentana, Brandon Johnson, Ace McCreary, three great-grandchildren, and his nephews Charlie Hutcherson and Eric Hutcherson, along with other family members and friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday the 25th day of April 2025 at Rhone Funeral Home.
Graveside services to celebrate the life of Johnny Torrez are to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning, on Saturday, the 26th day of April 2025 at Woodard Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Charlie Hutcherson, Brian Torrez, Charles Torrez, James Torrez, Cody Denman, Eric Hutcherson, and Walter George.
