I have lived a fairly long and healthy life to date, I remember walking into the kajukenbo school in Kelso when I was in high school in 1973 and meeting Sifu and wondering if he was really someone to contend with.....what a lesson to be learned. I only today learned of his passing, he has been in my thoughts throughout my life, as a teacher, mentor, and my master. I always talk of the days of knuckle pushups on the tile floors.....I am very saddened, but heaven is a better place now, that is no doubt....If anyone remembers those days please email me so we can remember the good old days, [email protected]

You were a very fine brother, Jon. We will miss you greatly. You left so many neat stories behind--we thank you for that. I recall so many fun hunting times together when I was a kid. I still think I got the biggest elk! I can still remember the smell of the damp, fresh air up near Mt St Helens. Sleeping inside that old van of yours. I appreciate most, though, the time you spent by my side giving me support, helping deflect attention away from some of the tougher trials, the time following my injury in 71’, hanging around in Longview until I got through the worst of things—helping me out with medicine and good stories when I was ill last year. We will miss you, brother.

Jon influenced so many peoples lives and always inspired everyone to do better. I feel lucky to have been one of his early students at his Kajukenbo school in Kelso, WA. We shared a special bond through the years of training together.
Last summer (07) I happened to run into him while having dinner at the Masthead Restaurant, after not seeing him for twenty years or more. We only had a few minutes to talk, but it was like old times. He still had that sparkle in his eyes.
You will be missed by all, brother, but forgotten by none. Have a great journey.

When I was a young child I would ask my parents for a baby brother. My dad, Lyle Caines, finally one day told me you have a brother already and some day you'll possibly meet him. My wish came true when I was 16 yrs. old. Jon showed up at our door wanting to meet the rest of his family. I was so happy! Jon and I had some very good times together from living next to him on the Toutle, his Kalama River property and our many dinners in Portland when he came to visit me. He was an amazing individual! I am proud to say Jon Loren is my brother. God bless his friends and family. He'll truly be missed but not forgotten.

As one of his younger cousins, I always looked up to Jon and found him quite fascinating. My fondest memories are when Jon had his lots on the kalama and built that cool bridge leading to his log house. We loved visiting him there. It is really sad that he is gone and so soon after Aunt Bessie. My condolences to his 3 sons and Linden and Arne.

What an incredible person and wonderful friend we will miss. Terry & I were two of Jon's first students when he started his school in Kelso years ago. We have many good memories of tasks shared, lessons learned and just a good time with our Sijo when he lived on the Toutle. We enjoyed stopping by Brooking several times, but always seemed to miss the guy ( he was hunting, fishing, teaching, etc. ) - he never stopped moving!!!! Our memories are full and our hearts with his family...love to you all.....Terry & Debbie Cole

He taught us many things as we grew up including a strong work ethic, morals, hunting, fishing, camping and how to enjoy life. He entertained and inspired us many times at hunting camp with his stories. There will never be anyone like him again and September/December will never be the same.
