Jon Robert McGregor

Jon Robert McGregor, age 82, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, with his family by his side.

Jon was born in Moorhead, Minnesota, on June 24, 1940, to Robert and Aline (Swanson) McGregor. In 1958 Jon graduated from Sheldon High School in Iowa. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army for 3 years. Jon returned to Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead State College with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education.

On August 14, 1965, Jon was united in marriage with Bonnie Klug in Bowman, ND. Jon and Bonnie moved to Olivia, Minnesota, where he taught mathematics. In 1970 they relocated to Pelican Rapids where Jon taught mathematics, computer science, and science until his retirement. During ten years of his career, he coached wrestling. Following retirement from the classroom in 2000, Jon worked part-time as the school’s informational technologist until June 2008. Many of his summers were spent doing maintenance at the high school.

Jon was involved with Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids Lions, and the city’s planning commission. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and watching Western movies.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 57 years; daughter Jennifer (Nick Corson) McGregor with their children: Mikko and Lily of Millburn, New Jersey; daughter Beth (Jarvis Frederick) McGregor with their children: Emelia, Kurt, and Eliza of Inman, South Carolina; daughter Karin (Ottar Dahl) McGregor with their daughter Lydia of Ås, Norway; sister Judy (Tom) Lien; brother-in-law Dale Klug; sister-in-law Linda (David) Shelver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jon is preceded in death by his sister Jean Ann Hansen.

Memorials are asked to be choice of donor.

Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 3, 2023 in the basement of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
