Jon Michael Neeley, 41, of Des Moines and formerly of Grinnell, died on Sunday, August 18, 2013 in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m., on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jon Michael Neeley Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Jon was born on December 2, 1971, to Yody Meredith and David McDowell in Norwich, Connecticut. The family later moved to Grinnell. Jon graduated Grinnell High School with the class of 1991. In December of 1996, he married Jenny Snell in Tennessee. Together, they had four children; Allison, Jessica, Anthony and Alivia. The couple later divorced and Jon moved to Des Moines. Jon enjoyed fishing, golfing and telling stories. He was incredibly gifted with artistic skills. He could craft things out of leather and did beautiful sketches. His greatest love was his children. He loved every moment he had with them. Those left to cherish Jon's memory are his parents, Yody and Terry Neeley of Grinnell; father, David McDowell of Grinnell; his children, Allison, Jessica, Anthony and Alivia, all of Grinnell; his two sisters, Laurie (Tina) Wildhagen of North Hampton, Massachusetts and Kimberly (Paul) Neeley of Hobart, Indiana; many aunts, uncles, cousins two nieces, one nephew and his dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leland and Irene Meredith, Elwyn Neeley, Florence McDowell and uncle, Terry McDowell.
