Jonathan McCarthy Jurgensmeyer was born on February 23, 1991, in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Ken Jurgensmeyer and Jennifer McCarthy. He passed away on August 1, 2023, in St. Petersburgh, Florida.
Growing up, Jonathan was involved in many activities including swimming for his high school swim team and participating in Taekwondo. He was accomplished in both earning many team/individual swimming medals, along with 1st degree Dan-black belt. He was also actively involved in Boy Scouts of America working his way through various programs, and ranks. He was honored with the highest BSA ranking, Eagle Scout, at the age of 18. Throughout his childhood, Jonathan took pride in helping fellow students of Taekwondo practice their forms and sparing, along with assisting younger scouts earn their merit badges. He loved helping others.
After graduating from Rockwall-Heath High School in Rockwall, Texas, Jonathan achieved an associate in arts degree at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida. He then moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas to attend the University of Arkansas where he completed his college career achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration while becoming a lifelong Razorback fan.
After finishing college, his work life took several directions starting off in Dallas, Texas working for a major logistics company as a dispatcher. He then moved to Tampa, Florida and focused his goals on HR/Recruitment. Jonathan's career progressed as a successful IT recruiter for several major companies including Robert Half Staffing, Microsoft, Chewy and Amazon.
While in Florida, Jonathan was involved with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization. He became a member of the coveted Pirate Krewe as a Fan Ambassador. His role was to entertain the fans doing what he did best---having a good time. He danced, cheered, and shot off the pirate ship cannons. This side hustle allowed him access to the games, along with representing the organization at community charity events throughout Tampa Bay. He loved the charity work so much that he also joined the Tampa Bay Rays organization working as a 50/50 raffle team member. This close-knit team focused on raising money at the games for charity and community giveback programs specifically the Ronald McDonald House of Charities.
Jonathan loved his two dogs, Dutch and Daisy, along with his cat Charles. They were his constant companions and best buddies. He enjoyed raising sunflowers at his apartment, along with visiting family. He truly enjoyed family gatherings/activities wherever they occurred and visited whenever possible.
Jonathan is survived by his father, Ken (Gail) Jurgensmeyer of St. Charles, Missouri and his mother Jennifer McCarthy of Dunedin, Florida, his sister Emiley Jurgensmeyer of Palm Harbor, Florida and his brother Eric Jurgensmeyer of Tampa, Florida, along with aunts, uncles, many cousins, and many friends with the Tampa Bay Bucs and Rays organizations.
Jonathan's smile, laughter and fun-loving approach to life will be missed by all. He touched so many lives in a positive way. He would want all of us to practice kindness each, and every day.
