Jonathan Magee Obituary

Visit the Farnsworth Mortuary & Crematory - Jerome website to view the full obituary.

Jonathan Richard Magee, lovingly known as Dick, was born on August 14, 1947, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to George Frederick and Catherine Elizabeth.

Dick proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Omaha, Thailand, and Hawaii, where he worked as a film processor, preserving important moments of history. He later continued his service in the Idaho National Guard, serving in the tank division and remaining dedicated to his country.

Following his military service, Dick worked briefly in auto body repair and for a short time at Tupperware before beginning his lifelong career at Spears Manufacturing. When the facility transitioned through ownership changes, Dick remained with the company, continuing his work as a production lead for many years. His loyalty, adaptability, and strong work ethic defined his professional life.

In his free time, Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his PlayStation games, and watching movies with family. If someone stood in front of the television, he would often say with a smile, “You make a better door than a window.” When asked endless childhood questions about a film, his familiar reply was, “It’s in the script.”

Together with his wife, Kathy, Dick created a home that was always open to those in need. Their house became a safe place in the neighborhood for children from troubled homes, offering warmth, stability, and care when there was nowhere else to go. Many young lives were touched by their kindness and generosity.

Dick also had a special bond with animals of all kinds. He and Kathy owned Miniature Pinschers, yet stray cats would often sneak in through the dog door just to be near him. With time and patience, many of those strays grew to trust him, eventually curling up in his lap during television time. On two occasions, Dick even woke up to find stray cats resting on the pillow beside him. As children, the family affectionately called him “the Beast Master.”

Above all, Dick was a devoted husband and father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and lead with patience, kindness, and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sally; brothers, Mike, Bob, and Steve; his beloved wife, Kathy; and his daughter, Beth.

Dick is survived by his children and their partners, Debbie and Gary, Cindy and Ross, and Tim and Lorna; grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren; along with extended family members whom he loved as his own.

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 30, 2026, at the Heider Pavilion in Rock Creek Park, Twin Falls.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Dick’s memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com.
