It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jonathan Ryan Rivas, 26, who passed away in Silver Spring, MD on January 11th, 2025. Born on March 9, 1998 Jonathan, son of Sandra C. Ort and Victor M. Rivas was a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Jonathan was predeceased by his beloved younger brother William A Villavicencio, who passed away at the age of 19 just two years ago.
He is survived by brothers Carlos M Rivas, Pedro Martinez and Alan Martinez, Sisters Vanessa Rodriguez, Abril Martinez, Larissa Martinez; Uncle Andrew Ort and Aunt Tina Slaughter Smith of Va; Aunt Mary Ann Jones of MD; Cousin Andrew Ort, Jr of VA; and Cousin Kelsey Shifflett (Trevis Shifflett Husband) of Va; Great Aunt Lisa Lalli Porter of CA; Cousins Mitchell Porter and Amanda Porter of CA; Grandmother Michelle Minar of MD; Tia Berta Rivas; Tio Bulmaro Escalente, one niece, one nephew and Family friend Maria Molina and his good friends, Kevin, Josh, Luis, Endy, Jose, Enrique and Bryan.
Jonathan, known by loved ones as Jona, Joker, or Tallguy. He listened to all genres of music, Spanish being his favorite. He was most recently employed at Curated Events as a Maintenance Technician repairing rental equipment. Prior to this he worked at Servpro where he worked his way up from a Temporary Laborer to Restoration Supervisor where he proudly led his own team.
Jonathan was a dad to his two beautiful cats, Shadow and Raiden. He loved fishing and hiking with his dad, brother and his friends. He loved cooking different recipes, ceviche and pot roast being a few of his favorite meals and making his great grandma's meatball recipe.
In his teens, he was a lifeguard which inspired his younger brother, William to become a lifeguard. He then became a barber and enjoyed cutting hair. He took great joy in cutting the hair of family members, always eager to lend his skill whenever they came to him. He learned to do mechanical work such as repairing his mother's car which involved oil changes, brakes and other various repairs. In his youth spent in Florida, he lovingly cared for his ill grandmother. This past year, he took care of his Tia Berta during her cancer treatment. Jonathan had a huge and caring heart. He was generous of spirit and committed to share his kindness and concern for anyone in need.
