Mr. Jonathan “Jon” Daniel Shackelford, 38, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023. He was born October 22, 1984, in Forsyth County to Mr. William “Billy” Lisle Shackelford and Mrs. Sally Bennett Shackelford.
Jon was one of the most selfless people. He loved people even more than they were able to comprehend at times. His empathy and emotion ran deep. He always had a smile on his face. No matter what adversity he was faced with, he was able to find the positive in any circumstance. He was born to be a community helper. He spent time as a volunteer firefighter, and he always felt called to return to a field where he could improve and save lives. The love he had for his son superseded everything, and he gave his life demonstrating that. Jon truly found his faith again, when he met the love of his life, Marcie in 2022. He was truly an earthly angel.
Jon graduated from Carver High School, class of 2004. He was an avid fan of both the Carolina Hurricanes and Carolina Panthers. He had a deep connection with all kinds of music and he lived the last days of his life passionately seeking growth opportunities.
Jonathan is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Major Lisle Shackelford and Othella Shackelford Mintz and his maternal grandmother, Willamina Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Lucas Shackelford; two sisters, Rachel Penn (Ray) and Sarah Shackelford; fiancé, Marcie Corral and her daughters, Sophie and Sienna; and the mother of his child, Lisa Scott (Adam).
A celebration of life service will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, June 24th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Bishop Eugene Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ABC of NC, 905 Friedberg Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, in honor of his son, Lucas.
