Jonathan Douglas Trout

 

After an intense battle with cancer, Jonathan Douglas Trout (31) completed his earthly journey on January 3, 2024. Jon showed great courage, faith, and perseverance over the course of his long illness. Although his time on this planet was short, his influence and gentle spirit will always be felt by his family and friends.

He enjoyed camping and four-wheeling, and loved learning about airplanes and history. He was a voracious reader, including every book in the Star Wars Extended Universe. His first word was “airplane.” Jon was a talented artist, although he was shy and humble about his talent. He loved country music and believed that every possible situation in life had been captured by a country song. “There’s a song for that,” he’d say.

Jon’s adolescence was greatly influenced by his lifelong friends, who first introduced him to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Growing up together, Jon and his friends would spend time at his mom’s house, jumping off the roof into the pool, shooting each other with paintball guns, or playing video and board games. Jon’s friends describe him as incredibly loyal and steadfast. Jonathan’s values included integrity, “service before self,” and excellence. He exemplified these virtues.

Jon was an excellent student, and graduated from Pitman High School in Turlock, California. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he earned the rank of Airman First Class and worked as an avionics technician. He found great joy and purpose in his service, and had a deep love and sense of duty toward his nation and fellow man.

After joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he moved to Provo, Utah, where he was embraced by many new friends. He enjoyed road trips, late-night star gazing, game nights, teaching friends to shoot, and giving girls rides on his motorcycle. He was always kind and protective.

He served as a full-time missionary in the Arizona Scottsdale Mission (Spanish speaking) from 2013-2015. He grew in his understanding and commitment to the gospel, sharing his testimony in word and deed. This is where he first met his future wife, Caitlin Freeman, who was serving in the same mission.

After returning, he pursued, dated, and married Caitlin. The two were sealed in the Las Vegas Temple in September 2016. They were very much in love and very happy together.

Jon was very intelligent, and later earned degrees from LDS Business College and Western Governors University in business and finance.

Among family and friends, Jon was known for his passion for politics, history, airplanes, and Star Wars. He was fiercely loyal to his loved ones and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a true gentleman and treated everyone he knew with respect. His greatest joys were found in being a husband to Caitlin and father to Jaina and Alek. He loved singing songs to Jaina and playing on the ground with Alek. Evening, family prayer with his kids was his favorite time of day.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his father, David Trout. He is survived by his wife, Caitlin; daughter, Jaina (2); son, Aleksander (1); mother, Katherine; sister, Samantha Trout (Thomas Carmichael); and nephew, Remy Trout. All who love him look forward to a joyful reunion in heaven.

A memorial will be held for Jonathan on January 13, at 11:00 AM in Henderson, NV, where he lived with his wife and children. Service will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 410 N. Valle Verde Drive, Henderson, NV 89014
