Jorge Almada Guild Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 23 to Feb. 25, 2024.
It is with great sadness and shock that we received on the 30th of January 2024 the news of Jorge's passing.

He was a charismatic and generous man who loved bringing people together to share his passion for Mexican culture, traditions and the 'ranchero' lifestyle. He was a proud father who delighted in his son's artistic gifts. He had an innate joy for planning the perfect road trip, always eager to share new adventures with his family. Co-founder of Casamidy, the San Miguel de Allende based design brand established with Anne-Marie Midy, Jorge was a consummate designer with his sketchbook always by his side and a black ink rollerball pen ready to draw. Leather was his soft spot, his favorite material. A visionary and an obsessive seeker of solutions, he was the Casa to Midy.

Jorge will be deeply missed. He will never be forgotten. We will remember the sound of his contagious laugh, his insatiable knowledge of history that he shared with great enthusiasm, his strong opinions regarding religion and politics as well as his quest for understanding the higher purpose of life. He found peace in his beloved landscape of Sonora.

Jorge is survived by his life partner Anne-Marie, their sons Olivier and Antoine, his sister Natalia, his nephews Gray and Elias, the Casamidy team and artisans so dear to his heart.

A dear and daring soul who left too early. Jorge was clever and smart, he was avid of knowledge, just like his father Chuy, through whom I met him several times and had the pleasure to share vacations with, along with his lovely and dear wife Anne Marie and his children. He was clearly a fantastic father and loving husband. A passionate and creative being. He had a precise eye for aesthetic and beauty. Dear Jorge, I hope you rest in peace along with your father Chuy, your mother and baby sister. You will be missed and remembered fondly. My deepest condolences to your wife and children, sister and cousins you sadly left behind.

A soul lost too young.
I will never forget High school with him and the Project Week trip to his family´s property. My deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends.

These pictures are from one of my first visits to San Miguel in 2002. Jorge and Anne Marie knew my friend Chip, who used to work with Jorge at Portico in Soho, and whose family had been in SMA for decades. J & AM took us for a ride in their VW Thing, we got stuck in the mud, and the boys stripped down to their undies and pushed us out. It was hilariously funny and the story was revisited many times over the years. I believe it was on that trip that they also introduced me to Pulque. Fun times.

I knew Jorge in high school. I was so happy to have another student with Mexican heritage join our class. He was so intelligent and gentle, he had a dreamy quality to him and seemed very artistic. Very sad to hear he has left the planet. I wish his family peace.

I am absolutely gutted and heartbroken to learn of Jorge's passing. I met him when we were young kids in school, he became such a dear friend, always so kind and thoughtful. His love for his children and Anne-Marie was fierce. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

Ten years ago at kids´ school where we found out that we both went to Parsons and majored in product design but just a few years apart. I will always remember that mischievous look in his face like he was always up to something. And how much he truly loved Anne Marie and his boys. My heart goes out to the family, a great loss for everyone who knew him. Rest in peace, Jorge.

My sincerest condolences to Ann Marie, the boys, Nati and the entire family. I first met Jorge in Scottsdale when he and I were around 8 or 9 years old, our families were inseparable from then on. One of my favorite memories was flying to the ranch in a small Piper Cherokee with Chuy and Jorge piloting the plane, flying like the Black Sheep Squadron on a mission.

As we grew older we lost touch with each other and thanks to the world of Facebook and Instagram we reconnected and have been able to share our stories for the past ten years. You will be missed Jorge.

Good Bless,

Chris McGarey
