Jose Acevedo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home - Newark on Feb. 6, 2026.
Jose H. Acevedo was born March 27, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York to Carmen L. Mayas Matos and Gil Cesar Acevedo.

Jose was married more than once, but was never was blessed with children. His nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews filled his life with joy and happiness.

Jose Acevedo was preceded in death by his father GIL Cesar Acevedo and grandma Eustiquia Morales, brother Victor Rojas and nephew Victor Rojas Junior.

Jose is survived by his mother Carmen, his three sisters Yolanda, Awilda and Alicia, his brother Wilson, and also a brother Gil Cesar.

Jose worked as a carpenter and a construction worker in New York and also in Puerto Rico. Jose's real passion food led him to the culinary arts, which led him to becoming a Master Chef cooking on the military base in Puerto Rico.

Jose retired and ended his last year's in New Jersey where he loved to cook for the community where he lived at Grey Manor.

Jose was a big man who automatically commanded attention when he entered a room. But for those who knew him, they knew he had a big heart.

Jose was known as Maya, Pucho or Uncle Pucho. And you know what to say – "La Bendición" – when you were in front of him. So as you depart one last time show your respect and ask for La Bendición.
