Jose Tavares Barrandey was born on May 12, 1929, in Shafter, Texas, to Andrea and Jose Barrandey. He was the fourth of five children. The family lived on a farm in Shafter for many years before making their home in McCamey, Texas.
Jose married Guadalupe Abalos, and together they raised four children. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for 37 years before retiring. Jose took great pride in his yard, where his love of gardening shone through—he could make anything grow and bloom, creating a beautiful space for his family to enjoy. Jose also loved listening to Spanish music.
As the years went on, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him even more joy. He loved spending time with them, watching them play, and sharing in their laughter.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him—our sweet father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Andrea Barrandey; his beloved wife, Guadalupe; his daughter, Elida Barrandey; and his grandson, Trent Barrandey.
He is survived by his children, Elisa Jo Barrandey of McCamey, Elsa Barrandey of Midland, and Ismael (Miley) Barrandey and his wife, Terri, of Midland. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Tyler Barrandey of Austin; Chelsea Aguilar and husband, Cody, of Crane; Tori Sanchez and husband, Abel, of Midland; and Kayla Alonzo and husband, Adrian, of McCamey.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren—Adriel, Aubri, Andree, Hayli, Lala, Daisy, Alani, Brody, and Bryce—and one great-great-grandchild, Wyatt.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his special friend and caregiver, Mario Rodriguez, for his kindness and devoted care.
Jose’s love, hard work, and gentle spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
