Jose R. "Tito" Gomez, age 81, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in
Harlingen, Texas. Born on February 21, 1944, in San Vicente Texas. Tito lived a life defined by devotion to family, a strong work ethic, and a deep connection to the land he loved.
A man of enduring values and quiet strength, Tito leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Leonor C. Gomez, together they built a life centered around love, resilience, and shared purpose. He was a proud father to Alfredo Cantu (Lynn Cantu), Jose R. Gomez (Marilou), Maria Elena Rodriguez (Jose Rodriguez), and Jaime R. Gomez(Criselda Gomez). His legacy also lives on through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy throughout his life. Tito is also remembered with love by his siblings: David Ismael Gomez (Letty Gomez) Roberto Gomez (Amelia Gomez), Esperanza Vera (David Vera), and Chelo Sauceda (Thomas Sauceda).
A man of the land, Tito found purpose and peace in farming. He spent countless years working in the fields-tilling soil, planting crops, and harvesting the fruits of his labor. Whether riding his tractor or walking through rows of crops under the Texas sun, he found peace and fulfillment in honest labor embraced the rhythm of rural life with pride and gratitude. Farming was not just an occupation for Tito; it was a way of life that reflected his values of perseverance and humility.
Above all else, Tito found happiness in simple pleasures, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their laughter filled his heart with warmth, and he treasured every moment shared with them. He also enjoyed driving around town to meet friends for coffee a daily ritual that kept him connected to the community he loved so dearly.
Tito was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Gomez and Nieves Juarez; his daughter, Maria Alicia Adameit; and his brothers, Hector Gomez and Eloy Gomez.
Jose R. "Tito" Gomez will be remembered as a steadfast presence in the lives of those who knew him - a man whose hands bore the marks of hard work and whose heart overflowed with love for his family.His legacy is one of unwavering love for family, pride in honest labor, and appreciation for life's everyday blessings. Tito's presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in
San Benito, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 228 Huisache Ave., with a Burial to follow to Tres Norias Cemetery in Santa Monica, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Jose Gomez III (JR), John Gomez, Justin Gomez, Roman Rodriguez (RJ), Vicente Sanchez, and Stevie Salinas.
