Jose Rogelio "Roger" Hernandez

Jose Rogelio Hernandez Salas, lovingly known as "Roger," passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 84. He was a resident of Hendrix, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his children: Rosa Concepcion Hernandez Alberto Guel Vazquez of Monclova, Coahuila; Maria Jeffrey Sherman of Texas; Jose Hernandez Jr. of Hendrix, Oklahoma; Maria Gabriela Hernandez of Primero de Mayo; Carolyn Vazquez and her husband, Miguel Vazquez, of Denison, Texas; and Vicki Lechtenberg and her husband, Tate Lechtenberg, of Denison, Texas. His legacy lives on through them and all who knew and loved him.

He is also survived by his siblings: Guadalupe Hernandez; Sara Lopez and her husband, Ramon Lopez; Maria Rubio and her husband, Jesse Rubio; Juan Hernandez and his wife, Socorro Ramirez; Emilia Hernandez; and Marisol Jones and her husband, Stephen Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Dessie Mae Johnson; his sons, Clifford Ray Gibson and Ronald Dewayne Gibson; and his oldest brother, Emilio Hernandez, who passed away at the age of two.

He was blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

A loving father, brother, uncle, Papa, and Grandpa, Roger especially enjoyed time spent with his family. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was a joy to those around him, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Roger will be remembered for his smile, humor, humility, help others and the deep love he had for his family.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026 at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will follow at Rosewood Cemetery, in Achille, OK. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

Just wanted to share a small story about how our mom and dad got together. They both worked at the old Memorial Hospital in Denison in 1975. The hospital that later became Texoma Medical Center in 2009. He was a maintenance worker, and she was a housekeeper. Our mom told us how he followed her home one day after work. She laughed as she told the story, because he kind of got scared and started to turn around. He didn't know she lived in Oklahoma. Once he got to the Carpenter's Bluff bridge, he began to wonder, "where is this lady going?" That's where it all began. That's their love story. They started having coffee together and meeting for breakfast in the cafeteria. Of course, their friends started to tease them, but they laughed it off. He was known by everyone to be a kind, funny person and mom liked that about him. They married June 12, 1980.

Had us kids and then we had kids. We are their Chongo Locos (crazy monkeys), the name he gave us.
