Jose Luis "Tuto" Negron
October 11, 1951 – February 2, 2026
Jose Luis "Tuto" Negron, 74, of
Watertown, New York, formerly of San Juan, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. Known to many simply as Luis, he was a man whose warmth, humor, and gentle spirit left a lasting mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on October 11, 1951, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Luis was the cherished son of the late Maria Esther Maldonado and Bernabel Negron. He grew up surrounded by a large family, sharing his life with many brothers-Vitin, Guelo, David, and Tito-who have preceded him in death, and his surviving brothers, Guillermo, Carmelo, and Rafael Negron.
Luis proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after more than nineteen years of dedicated service. His military career included six years of foreign service, with assignments in Korea and Germany. He completed his service at Fort Drum and made Watertown his home for over 30 years. After serving, he continued to serve on base as a civilian, including working guard shack near Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield and a wingman plowing during the winter.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Luis received numerous military honors, including the Army Achievement Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal (Sixth Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He also completed the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course. His service reflected his integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty.
Family meant everything to Luis. His love extended beyond blood, welcoming friends as family and offering loyalty, kindness, and support without hesitation. He lived by example, teaching the values of hard work, honesty, and compassion.
Known for his quiet wisdom and resilience, Luis faced life with grace and determination. He took pride in caring for those he loved, including his animal companions, who held a special place in his heart. He showed love not through words alone, but through actions, sacrifice, and steadfast presence.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who knew him as Uncle Luis. His love, guidance, and example will continue to inspire generations.
Jose Luis "Tuto" Negron will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
