With sadness, we announce the passing of our father, and grandfather, Jose Maria Oliveira Aldamiz, on Sept 5, 2025, at his home in Salt Lake City, after 91 years of deep devotion to his wife, and children, and faithful service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jose Maria is beloved by thousands of members of the church in Spain for his part in the growth of the church there as one of the first Spanish members. Jose Maria was born in Huelva, Spain, on March 8, 1934. He earned a law degree in Madrid, and worked in the movie industry in Spain in the 1960's. He directed two movies of his own, both earning several awards in Spain at the time for their unique intellectual religious thriller genre: Las Flores del Miedo (1973) and The Dead, the Devil, and the Flesh (1974) Jose Maria met his beautiful wife, Patricia, when she was visiting Madrid from Utah, and they married in 1966.

Anyone who knew them, could see how he completely adored her. He joined the church in 1966, crossing the border into France to be baptized during Franco's regime, and then helping it grow in Spain till they moved to Utah in 1990. Jose Maria is known for his charisma, gift of speech, sharp wit, contagious laughter, sense of justice and truth, keen intellect, extra tenderness for women and children, and desire to uplift those around him. Every conversation with him overflowed with inspiration and love.

He will be missed by his 6 children, and their spouses, and 24 grandchildren. He is preceded by his mother and father, and wife, Patricia, of 54 years. Services will be held for family only. Memories, and condolences can be posted on his Facebook account. No flowers please.
