Jose Peralez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - North on Dec. 27, 2024.
Major (Retired) Jose Y. Peralez went to his final home on December 16, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 8, 1937, in Port Arthur, Texas. He was the son of Daniel Samuel Peralez (born 1896) and Laura Mendez Rios Betancourt Peralez (Born 1897). He was named after grandfather Jose, his Indian heritage Ysac, and his ancestors from Spain, Peralez. His ancestors were pear harvesters, thus the name Peralez. Growing up in Port Arthur, he was known as and called "Compa". The English translation: Friend.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marines and the United States Army. His military duties took him to: 1956 Gotemba, Japan, Middle Camp Fujiyama, Okinawa, Japan, Fort Wood, Missouri, Fort Polk, Louisiana, San Diego, California, Polk Meadows, California, Hardt Kaserne (Bismarck) in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany, Vietnam, Honolulu, Hawaii (R&R) at Fort DeRussy, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Commanding Officer Battery C, Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, 1st Calvary Division Fort Hood, Texas, ASIC of Joint Armed Services Command Bangkok, Thailand, and returned to Fort Hood to train a new unit. He received many awards form his Military career of 30 years in the Marines and the Army. He retired in 1977. After the Military he moved to San Antonio and worked for the United States Post Office.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Peralez, sons Samuel Daniel Peralez and Allen Ramirez, and daughters Laura Peralez Klein, Belinda Pitts, Lindsey Whan, and Elyzabyth Ramirez. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his "Brother", nephew Richard Ramos, and several loving nieces and nephews.
His love of gardening came by growing vegetables on his father's farm, along with the love for fishing, "crabbing", cooking, barbecuing, to the point of digging holes in the ground to create an oven with his family and also with his soldiers. He also loved long drives to enjoy the views of the outdoors, camping, helping family and even strangers selflessly. He was a gifted storyteller entertaining family and friends his sense of humor is well known. He thoroughly enjoyed going to all of his grandchildren's activities and supporting their goals and dreams. He was astute in sharing his knowledge and wisdom with his family to navigate childhood and preparing for adulthood. This will carry on through his family, anything from the importance of a smile and a firm handshake to "if you borrow something, return it better than you received it". He has filled all our lives with wisdom and beautiful happy memories to last our lifetimes. His best skill as Dad, as Grandpa, and as a Best Friend was always to be right there for you to be a loving kind person. He will be greatly missed.
