He moved his wife and two young daughters to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1969, entering surgical residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. From there, the family moved to West Virginia and
Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Simo and his family, which now included three children, moved again to New Orleans, LA where he completed a residency and fellowship in urology at Ochsner Foundation Hospital.

He enjoyed a good joke, a party, all kinds of music, and later in life had the status of amateur gardener and bird lover. He cultivated orchids, other difficult to grow plants, and enjoyed taking care of his two African love birds. He was incredibly proud of his children and doted on his grandchildren. Known as Papi to his children, grandchildren and all their friends, he leaves a legacy of hard work, dedication and care for others that will live on in those who knew and loved him.
