Jose M. Sotelo of
McAllen, TX joined our Heavenly Father on August 29, 2024. Joe, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in
McAllen, TX on May 24, 1954. He graduated from McAllen High School in 1972 and was employed at various jobs when he decided to follow in his father's footsteps of being a plumbing, sprinkler and landscape contractor. He helped build up his father's business L&S Sprinklers and then worked at Southern Landscapes(aka Valley Garden Center) where he flourished in his career and was able to establish skills that allowed him to start his own business Joe's Sprinkler Landscape & Fence Co. in September of 2000 with his wife Veronica Sotelo. He maintained his TCEQ Irrigator's and Backflow licenses for over 30 years and has been in the industry for over 50 years. He learned his unwavering work ethic from his dad and worked diligently everyday to provide for his family. He also mentored numerous friends, colleagues and family members that will forever be grateful to him for helping them reach their own goals. The business relationships he made and maintained are a true testament of what an honest, compassionate and savvy person he was. His motto was "the customer is always right", so it was that mentality that allowed him to grow his reputation in the industry and expand his business to thousands of customers. At the spry age of 70, Joe still maintained his office duties at home and in the field, never made excuses for himself or anyone else and expected the same from his employees. One of the family member's he passed his work ethic to was his nephew Leon Edward Garcia, who followed in his uncle's footsteps and got his TCEQ Irrigator's & Backflow License and will assist in continuing on his legacy for Joe's Sprinkler, Landscape & Fence Co. with Joe's wife. He loved his wife and children dearly and was the proudest husband and parent there could be. The love he showed his wife and children will forever be a pillar to their family and will be instilled in their daughters, family members, and friends that were a witness to their love and 34+ years of marriage. He was a beautiful person inside and out and so many can attest to that. He cherished his regimen relationship with his sisters Tina and Janie who were always there for him and continue to show their love and support to his family. He also loved all his many friends too and joked infinitely with them daily which was always the best medicine for him. He would enjoy chatting and having lunch with his compadre Joe Sepulveda, Juan Candalaria, Felipe Gomez, Javier Perez(aka Taco Man), Mark Losoya and numerous other friends and colleagues so he will be dearly missed by them too. Joe also loved to read a good ghost book or magazine article and was fascinated with collecting antiques and knick knacks. He loved a good crime or alien show too and loved watching the many thriller and action movies with his wife and family as long as they weren't too cheesy. Another favorite pastime he loved was playing Texas Hold'em which he enjoyed playing with his friends and family on numerous occasions. There were many funny stories and memories made over his lifetime that will forever be cherished my all his loved ones. May his legacy of love for his family live on forever. He is preceded in death by his parents: Leon Sotelo and Antonia Guzman Sotelo.
