Barbara,
You are simply an amazing and all around beautiful person. I thank you for the times you took from your busy schedule to help my family...

I am sincere when I say you and your boys are in my prayers for comfort and strength.

I am blessed to know you and to have been taught by you. I remember a day you were teaching about grieving. It is awkward not really knowing what to say to someone who suffered a terrible loss, many people don't say a word but you brought it to our attn to never say nothing.. And so here I am, your student, your friend who feels soo deeply sad for you and your boys that I am sending many hugs and well wishes....

Sorry for your loss. I was very sorry to find out that he passed. We can always pray for a miracle and when it doesn't happen it's hard to accept, especially when you have been praying for a long time. I know he will be greatly missed and I will be praying for you and your family,

To Barbara and all of Joe's family,
Although we only knew Joe in a professional capacity, we just wanted to share with you how powerfully the Lord used Joe in our lives. His gentle but definite Christian example over several months of counselling with us led both my husband and me to extraordinary personal experiences and across the threshold to a complete commitment to Christ, and thus to our marriage in Christ. We are living a dream come true today, whereas we were considering separation before we first came to Joe. What a witness his life was for Christ! I'm sure the Lord saved one of the best "rooms" for Joe, and I know He will comfort you until you one day can join Him too. Please know that your loss is the world's loss, for many that will never know him.

Joe helped me get through the toughest time in my life. I am truly a different and much better person because of Joe's wisdom and kindness. Thank you for sharing him with so many others.

A man of wisdom and strength is how I will forever remember Joe. His zest for life are reflected in his children and beloved wife. I will always cherish the conversations that we have had.

I have never met boys (young men now) who have ever loved their father as much as Seth and Micah have. At every mention of his name their eyes lit up and they always seemed to have an air of admiration for him. Understandably, since he showed so much compassion and love for his family.

He is a man that I, myself, admire and wish to emulate. May God be with you during this time of healing. Loss is never easy, especially when the person is so well loved.

Barbara, Matthew, Joshua, Seth and Micah,
My thoughts of Joe as a parent especially at soccer games... Joe will always be the parent who was there for positive support during and at the end of every game. He cheered every player along and always shared the positive with each and every team member. I know the impact he has had on my son and can just imagine the many other lives he has touched.

Just like the humility of the man himself, this does not list all his many, many accomplishments. I thought I would add that he was he was an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia, a highly coveted and significant accomplishment.

Dear Barb and boys,

We want to express our love, sorrow and support for you and the family. As you know, we at the fellowship have been praying for all of you and encouraging those to serve you as they are able. Joe was one that meant a great deal to many including ones in the fellowship. He was a dear friend, a close brother and a great help to many. He will be missed. As it says of Daniel and is true of Joe, he was one "greatly beloved". We know he is now in the "everlasting arms" of our and his dear Lord Jesus. Our prayers for you and the boys are that "the God of all comfort" will meet you in a special way in this hour and you will discover His "all sufficient grace".

Your brother in Christ,

My deepest support to Joe's family during this time of loss and celebration of a wonderfully meaningful life. A childhood friend, a fellow student at Tuckahoe Elementary School, Tuckahoe Junior High, and a fellow member of the Key Club at Douglas S. Freeman High School, Joe was the epitome of the student athlete. His achievements at the University and contributions to Phi Kappa Psi will always be remembered. God bless you, Joe, from a VMI alum.
