Joseph Leo Blees, age 87, of Broomall, PA passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025.
The son of the late Christopher and Catharine L (nee Hasson) Blees, he was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 3, 1938. As a young man, Joseph served honorably in the United States Marine Corps as an aviation electrician. After discharge, his military training had helped him gain employment with the space division at General Electric. Joseph then veered off onto a different path and started his own business as a general contractor and was very good at what he did. Toward the end of his career he parlayed his knowledge as a general contractor and became a property manager.
Joseph was a proud man, very quiet and reserved. If you knew him, you knew he had a wicked sense of humor and a sarcastic wit. If he gave you his word on something, you knew you could count on him. He loved learning new things, had a curiosity for history and why things worked the way they did. He enjoyed listening to music, doing crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, solving any kind of puzzle really. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his granddaughters. They were the lights of his life.
Along with his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife Patricia JoAnn; his daughter Susan Marie Brophy; and his siblings Alice Lennox, Donald Blees, and Elaine Schwartz. He is survived by his daughter Linda A Blees; his granddaughters Dominique A Brophy and Gianna N Brophy; as well as his great-granddaughters Shyla M Hernandez and Aiyanna S Hernandez.
Services to honor Joseph will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, with a Viewing at 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, 610-353-6300, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joseph’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001, https://www.alzfdn.org.
