I remember Joe as someone I could turn to and discuss student situations with. He would always be attentive, encouraging and always willing to assist. I consider Joe a colleague I admired and respected. My prayers go out to Joe, Nancy and family. Delbert Dagel

Joe was a conscientious and hard-working boss: absolutely devoted to his job. He was a very principled person with a soft spot in his heart that he tried to hide. He developed and encouraged faculty and enjoyed friendships with people quite different from himself. He adored his family and was absolutely loyal to them. I appreciated his support for me in my community service and travel for advocacy for Deaf Education. He always did his best for his department and his program. He had a great smile and a great laugh. His family and friends will miss him a very great deal. May his memory be a blessing.

Dr. Bochner, actively brought me into NTID. Everytime there was an opening he called me. He and my husband Peter played old time vaudeville producers complete with imaginary cigars "the kid is ok, we oughta hire this one". He and Nancy came to my wedding.
When I had serious back surgery he called at least once a week to check in and give me department news. Making sure I knew I was still in thoughts.
We talked "New York" all the time. He was a good Chairperson, (25 years as mine). Ups and downs that naturally happen with people who care about their jobs.
I will miss him.
