Joseph A. Casamento, II, age 91, of Kent, OH, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at UH Cleveland.
Joseph was born February 25, 1934 in Akron, OH to Joseph and Mary (LaFatch) Casamento I.
He is survived by his brother, Mike; his daughter, Connie Sabo (Dave); his grandson’s Kyle Sabo (Nicole), and Erik Newton; granddaughter, Tracy Norton; great granddaughters, Kiera Terranova, Courtney, Norton; great grandsons, Michael Norton Colton and Kayden Sabo, along with many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by the love of his life of 59 years, his wife, Shirley, his son’s Derk Newton, Joseph Casamento III, his granddaughter, Kristen Newton; sisters, Carmela Quinn, Marie Sloey; brothers, Jim Gattuso, and Russell.
Joe worked at Rockwell in Newton Falls for 13 years until their closing. He went onto own and managed the clubhouse in Brady Lake for several years, where he was affectionately called “Uncle Joe” by all. He went to work at Kent State in the heating plant until retiring after 20 years. He then went to work delivering auto parts for Advanced Auto and AutoZone until finally retiring at the age of 83. Joe was an avid sports fan with the Ohio State being his favorite along with the Indians and Cleveland Browns, Joe and Shirley love going to the casinos, entertaining, cooking, and being with friends and family, working in the yard or just sitting on the porch watching the birds. A special thank you to friends, Doug and Vera Bjere and Dean Keller, for looking out for him, and Leeann McMullen and all the Thursday gang making his Thursday something to look forward to.
Joe will be remembered for his endless generosity by helping anyone that needed it, rather it was money advice, or just someone to talk to. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Calling hours will be held 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory with Kevin O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to (Charity).
