Joseph Richard Clarke, 84, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones (even if he would have grumbled about the fuss)
Joe lived his life to the fullest every step of the way. Tougher than whale bone and slicker than snot on a pump handle, Joe had a way of tackling life head-on. When he got frustrated he’d say, " Oh, for crying out loud!” and when someone asked his opinion, he would say, "If you’re happy, I’m shickled tittless!” If you asked how he was, he would say,"Finer than frog fuzz."
Joe enjoyed coin collecting, classic rock music, fishing, hunting, NASCAR, and taking in beautiful sunsets. Whether casting a line, turning up the radio, or admiring his tomatoes, he found joy in the simple things. He was quick-witted, sharp-tongued, and had enough sayings to fill a book.
Joe is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Dick Gallant; his children John Telganoff, Rick Mapes, Angela Clarke- Ward & John Brennan, Tammy Pyne, Melissa Theadorus, Mato & Steven Clarke; Critty & Dennis Windish; Nub & Josh Rathbun; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a bunch of extended family; the best mail lady around, and more friends than you can shake a stick at.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy (Paulus) Clarke; his sister & brother-in-law Judy & Mike Belfy; his grandson Brennan Joseph Wade Clarke; and many beloved friends.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of laughter, stubborn strength, and stories that will be told for generations. Heaven better be ready — because if Joe has anything to say about it, they’ll know he’s arrived.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Banks Township Hall with light refreshments and fellowship to follow.
