Joseph Clipper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory - Troy on Aug. 25, 2025.
Joseph O. Clipper, Jr., 74, of Troy, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Troy Manor. He was born on September 13, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Joseph and Norma Jean (Wright) Clipper. He was raised in St. Louis along with his two siblings, Mary and Steve. During his senior year at Pattonville High School, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves. After graduating in 1968, he began working at Grandpa Pigeon's department store in St. Ann, Missouri, where a co-worker would later introduce him to his future wife, Sally Bechtel, whom he was married to from 1970-1979. During their marriage, he served in the U.S. Navy, and they moved to St Charles, Missouri. The marriage blessed them with two children, Matthew Joseph Clipper and Angelia Jean Clipper (Angie Finnerty).

Joe was a born salesman, and he had many jobs using these talents. During his career he worked in sales for several companies including Northern Paper, Eskimo Pie, and Nestle. Prior to his retirement, Joe operated his own small business selling shop towels to numerous businesses throughout the St. Louis area.

Throughout life, Joe's top priority was his loving children and grandchildren. When his kids were young, he loved playing ball with them in the backyard, taking them to St. Louis Cardinals and Blues games, and spending time at the family cabin in the country with them and his extended family. Joe was elated when his children married, and he immediately loved his new in-laws as his own. Joe was overjoyed each time he learned a new grandchild was to be born. Ultimately, he was blessed with three grandchildren, LeAnna, Brendan, and Riley. He loved to show off pictures and share stories about his grandkids to anyone who would listen. He was proud of all their activities, accomplishments, and watching them grow.
Prior to his handicap, he loved visiting them and attending their sporting events and other activities. Later in life, he looked forward to their visits at the nursing home and proudly introduced them to the nursing home staff and residents.

In addition to his kids and grandkids, he held his family dear to his heart. He loved his parents and never let go of their memories. He was very close to his siblings. He loved them dearly along with his nieces and nephews.

Joe spent his last nine years as a resident at Troy Manor. He was grateful for friendships he made there with the staff, residents, and even residents' families. They shared many stories and laughs. Joe's family offers their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Troy Manor, who cared for Joe with compassion and respect throughout the last years of his life.

Joe will be greatly missed and long remembered by all those who knew and loved him. He was a great teller of jokes and funny stories, many of which were in heavy rotation, but loved nonetheless.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr and Norma Jean (Wright) Clipper, along with his brother-in-law, Hugo Miguel Canizares

Surviving are his loving children and spouses: Matthew (Angela) Clipper of Phoenix, Arizona; Angie (Brian) Finnerty of Troy Missouri; and his three adoring grandchildren -LeAnna and Riley Clipper, and Brendan Finnerty. He is further survived by his two siblings: Steve Clipper and Mary (Mark Studtmann) Canizares, along with many nephews, nieces, and friends.
