Joseph Conroy

Joseph M.P. Conroy, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on November 10, 2025. Born on September 14, 1939, Joe lived a life defined by dedication to his family, his work, and the people around him. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and selflessness touched everyone who knew him.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army, where he learned the discipline and strong work ethic that guided him throughout his life and where he discovered his love of cooking which was one of the ways he showed his love to others. After his military service, he spent many years as a hardworking truck driver before beginning another career with the court system, where his reliability and integrity earned the respect of all who worked alongside him.
Joe shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, the late Cecelia (née Zolinas). Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter.
In his last chapter, he spent every day of the last eight years caring for his daughter with boundless devotion, a reflection of the deep love and compassion that defined his character.
Joe was the loving and dedicated father of Cecelia Dougherty (John), and the proud grandfather of Erin Dougherty (Amy Howlett) and Tara Chupka.
He is survived by his siblings, George Conroy (late Mary), Rosemary Blackburn (late Robert) and Patricia Dingler (William), and was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Boyer (late Edward).
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as his daughter's devoted care team, whose friendship, love, kindness and commitment brought comfort and peace to Joe during the most challenging of days.
Joseph is also survived by Jamie Lyons, a dear friend who provided unwavering support and companionship for decades. Joseph's legacy of sacrifice, kindness, strength, and devotion will live on in all who were fortunate to know him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joe's Viewing and Funeral, Saturday, November 15, 2025 after 9:30 AM until 11 AM from Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1404 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment will follow at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Cecelia. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the medical trust of his daughter, The Cecelia Doughtery Trust Fund, 325 Jackson St, Philadelphia, PA 19147.
