Joseph Convery Obituary

Joseph John Convery, age 80, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving wife and family, on November 28th, 2025.
Born on March 19th, 1945 in Paterson, New Jersey, he shared his birthday with the feast of St. Joseph, and like his namesake, he led a life of service, love, and family devotion.
Enlisting in the Navy in 1963, Joe served during the Vietnam War as a crew member on the Martin P5M Marlin. In 1967, after finishing his time in the Navy, he met his future wife, Pat Hanrahan, the day after returning home to New Jersey. They were married on October 11th, 1969, and settled in New Jersey. Joe began a career in industrial sales of technical and optical equipment. Work brought him and the family from Bergen County New Jersey, to Bucks County Pennsylvania, and eventually to Hartland, Michigan. Following retirement, he started a second career as a bus driver for the Hartland Consolidated School District, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. C."
At home, Joe was fiercely loyal to his family, and immensely proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was a trusted and loyal friend to those he met along life's path. He was proud of Pat, and her career. He touted her accomplishments, and always encouraged her ideas. Their marriage is an example of companionship, teamwork, devotion, and love. They enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Italy in recent years.
Joe had a great love for the outdoors and explored it in various ways including fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, camping, and his greatest joys, sailing and golf. He was a ranger at Chemung Hills Golf Club for many years.
Joe was always a dreamer. He had an unfailing enthusiasm and optimistic attitude. His strong faith in God was a source of comfort and strength. Joe was called back to his Heavenly Father, where he is at peace.
Joe is survived by Pat, his loving wife of 56 years; his sons Sean (Martha) and Joseph (Brigit); his daughter Erin (Eric) Henderson; his nine grandchildren MB, Justin, Ronan, William, Harrison John, Oliver, Jackson and Gabriel; and his brothers John and Tom Convery.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Gertrude Convery, and sister Marian Convery.
Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd from 4-7pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel, 315 N. Michigan Ave, Howell. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 3rd at 11:00am, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2099 N. Hacker Road, Howell. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
