Joseph Frank Cottrell Jr.

1963 - 2023

Cottrell, Joseph Frank, Jr., - 59, of Somers Point, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Atlantic City and a lifelong resident of Somers Point, Joe was a devoted husband and father, volunteer youth sports coach, former member of the NJ Air National Guard, and had a long career with the NJ-American Water Company. In his youth, Joe attended St. Joseph's Regional School and Mainland Regional High School, where he excelled at both baseball and football, having been a member of the 1980 State Championship winning football team. He went on to earn an Associates of Applied Science in Electronics Technology from Atlantic Cape Community College in 1994. An athlete at heart, Joe passed his love for sports onto his children, proudly serving his community as a coach for many years. Joe's biggest success was the family he created, being a dedicated, loving husband, proud father to his three sons, and Pop-Pop to his grandchild. Joe was an avid golfer and loved spending time on the links whenever possible. The front porch was where you could always find him, ready for happy hour, plotting the next house project to undertake, reminiscing about the good old days, and reflecting on the life he created. Joe is survived by his wife of 37 years, Toni; his son Justin (Monique), his son Christopher and grandson Jett, and his son Tyler (Erin). He is also survived by his sister, Mindy, brother, Michael, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his grandson Judah. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ 08244.
