Joseph Albert Cusack

Joe Cusack, 94, of Scottsdale AZ passed away at his home July 4, 2024. Joe was born to Thomas and Claire Cusack (nee Hock) in River Forest IL on April 9, 1930. One of 5 siblings (Claire, Tom, Joe, Jeanne, John), Joe was raised in River Forest and excelled at engineering and math disciplines. Joe attended Notre Dame University, graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1952 and later an MBA from ASU in 1973. After a stint in the Air Force as a communications officer in Korea, Joe married Diane Donahoe in 1957 and promptly moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to work for Motorola, where he stayed in the Government Electronics group for 32 years. Joe led teams that worked on many components of the US Space Program and proudly supported the manned Mercury, Gemini, Apollo launches. Joe and Diane made their home in Scottsdale and raised three children – Joe Jr, Anne, and Ellen. Joe was active in the Catholic Church and a proud parish member of OLPH. Joe mentored students at SCC and ASU and regularly ministered to the sick and less fortunate. Joe is preceded in death by his daughter Anne Troyer and is survived by his wife of 67 years Diane, his sister Claire, his son Joe Jr. and spouse Lori, and daughter Ellen, 7 grandchildren (Jon Vimmerstedt, Daniel Vimmerstedt, Cassie Ellison, Richie Cusack, Tom Cusack, David Cusack, Jackie Troyer), and 4 great-grandchildren (Addison Ellison, Taylor Ellison, Wesley Ellison, and Asher Cusack).
Visitation will be Friday July 12th 5:00-7:00 pm at Messingers Mortuary in Scottsdale.
Funeral mass held at OLPH Catholic Church Saturday July 13th at 11 am, followed by a reception at Museum of the West from 1-5PM.
