Edwards, Joseph D.

passed away at the age of 81 at home in Riverview, Florida on the morning of January 4, 2026. Born in Fresno, California on December 1, 1944, Joe loved the mountains and mountain roads of his home, even in a class A RV. A graduate of Cal State Fresno, Joe earned his JD from UC Law San Francisco (Hastings Law) and his LLM in Tax from NYU. He began his career as a law clerk at the US Tax Court and then moved to Tampa in 1972 when he joined Carlton Fields where he became a partner. Joe and four of his partners left to launch Annis, Mitchell, Cockey, Edwards & Roehn where he served as Managing Partner. He later helped open the Tampa offices of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey.

Family trips were a regular part of life while the kids were at home. Whether it was the high-speed RV adventures in the Sierra Nevada mountains or cowboy hat wearing at a Wyoming dude ranch, or the infamous family outing to Eleuthera, the stories of those trips will stick with his loved ones forever. Some of Joe's favorite travel spots were Key West, New Orleans, Alaska, and Maine. Often living on or near the water, Joe wanted to be sure to make it on one last sailing adventure with Sigrid on their sailboat cruise in the northeast. Mostly, Joe spent time around the Riverview ranch they called home since the mid-90's. It was a place filled with love and home to dogs, cows, goats, koi, donkeys, and Papa Llama.

Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Sigrid Edwards, and their combined children Kevin Casey, Brad Casey, Nathan (Christina) Edwards, and Dona (Victor) Edwards-Giron and four grandchildren Sarah, Jonathan, Allison, and Owen. He is also survived by his older sister Lora Lee Bell.

A celebration of life will be held on February 21, 2026 at his home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Gulf Winds Wildlife Sanctuary in Dade City.
