Where do I begin Big Joe was the ultimate, host, impresario and musician He would go from table to table , acknowledging his fans and newcomers, making everyone feel welcome On stage he was both and entertainer and an educator, exposing the audience to Blues Artists like O.V Wright, Junior Wells and the audience loved it. As Buddy Guy sang "Whose gonna fill his shoes

A big loss for so many who benefited from his goodwill and unique talent to make just about everyone feel valued and respected. My heart goes out to Kathleen, Sam and Joe´s extended family. I loved hearing his stories about you, with his killer smile and New York style.

I am sure going to miss Big Joe. He made the blues scene in this region a more fun, friendly and creative place. Through his radio show. dances, gigs and blues jams he helped make a scene where musicians, listeners and singers could create, communicate and celebrate the blues.

The community has lost a bright light. I have lost an inspiration.

A life very well lived, a life to be very proud of, a man who loved a lot and was much-loved. I only spent one evening with him (a concert) but knew of him from Hank and it was clear what a good and kind man he was. May the creativity, decency, kindness and intelligence with which Joe lived be a source of peace to his family.
