Joseph Ellis Flowers Jr., was born September 8, 1926 to the late Joseph Ellis Flowers Sr. and Bessie McGown Flowers. He was the eldest of six siblings.
Joseph served in the United States Army, worked for General Motors for over 35 years in skilled trades as a milling machine operator, was a loving husband, dad, son, brother, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed as a person that always needed to get things done, and get them done now.
Joe as he was called by many, was most proud of the ten acres of land that he purchased back in the 60's that was very uncommon for a black man at that time and built a home and gardened food for the family. Joe loved going to the casinos, racetracks, hunting and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed watching sports, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. He was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Betty Jean Flowers; brother, Carl Flowers; sister, Alice Jackson.
He is survived by: children, Rubin Flowers of Gulfport, MS, Wendolyn Nelson, Wayne Benson, Jo-Reese Flowers-Ford, Tyree Flowers, and Micheal (Pamela) Flowers; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Earl Flowers of Seatle, WA, Stanley (Diane) Flowers of Greensburg, PA, Charles Flowers of Bakersfield, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
