On November 10, 2024, Joseph "Skip" Austin Garman Jr., 76, passed from his earthly presence to everlasting life. Skip lived a life of kindness, love, humility, and service. Skip was born August 5, 1948, in Dubois, Pennsylvania to Joseph "Bucko" Austin Garman Sr. and Doris Eleanor Miller Garman. He grew up in Dubois with his parents and three siblings, David, Kathy, and Susan.
Skip graduated from Dubois Area High School in 1966. He went on to attend Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, GA where he played on the basketball team and met the love of his life. He married Pamala "Pam" Sue Sturgess in 1968. They moved to Savannah GA and started a family of four children, Joey, Scott, Heather, and Shelley. Through the years he provided for his family, coached sports teams, and worshiped his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Savannah until 2004 when he joined Southside Baptist Church. Skip was a master electrician for many years with Rollinson Electric and finished his career with Rabey Electric.
Skip enjoyed spending time with family, playing sports and games, and working as an electrician. He was known for his work ethic, humility, quick wit, and kindness to all. Skip is most remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a beloved grandfather, and an encouraging friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Garman of Savannah, GA; two sons and their wives, Joey and Joy Garman of Woodstock, GA, Scott and Jackie Garman of Rincon, GA; two daughters and their husbands, Shelley and Jon Willis of Savannah, GA, Heather and John Hack of Oakridge, NC; twelve grandchildren, Renee, Addison, Hailey, Skyler, Tyler, Jacob, Madelyn, Hannah, Luke, Joshua, Austin, Johnny, and three siblings; David Garman, Kathy Ramsey, and Susan Young.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Joe and Doris Garman.
Visitation will be Friday, November 15 from 10am to 11am at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah GA, 31406. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
