Joseph “Joey” Garney
November 20, 1978 – February 20, 2026
Joseph “Joey” Garney passed away on February 20, 2026, at the age of 47.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Grace Garney; his loving father and mother, John Garney; Cindy Garney; his sister, Tina Garney; along with many other relatives and loved ones who meant so much to him.
Joey loved deeply and lived each day. A passionate cook, cooking was more than a career; it was something that brought him genuine joy. He found happiness in preparing meals, gathering people around a table, and sharing that warmth with others.
He was proud to live in the small hometown he never left behind, just houses away from where he grew up. That closeness to his roots reflected who he was a man who valued family, friendships, and the place that shaped him.
Music was woven into the fabric of Joey’s life. He felt it, understood it, and often used it to express what words alone could not. He connected to life through music, and it connected him to others.
If you knew Joey, you knew there was food on the stove, a fire in the woodstove, and a Raiders shirt being worn. And if you stayed long enough, the night would end with him holding a guitar.
Above all else, Joey’s greatest love was being a father. His devotion to Grace was unmatched. She was his pride, his joy, and the center of his world.
Joseph will be remembered for his love of life, his passion and his music. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories, the songs, and the memories shared by those who loved him.
“Grace, your father’s love will always be the song playing in your heart.”
Funeral Services for Joseph will be Friday February 27, 2026, at 12noon at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Avenue Schenectady. Visitation will be from 10-12 prior.
Interment in St. Cyril Cemetery in Rotterdam.
