Joseph W. Greenaway 1944 – 2025

Beloved Husband to Rosemary Greenaway. Son of the late Joseph R. and Catherine Greenaway. Beloved father to Nina Babjack (Wayne), Joseph Greenaway (Marianna), Pam Diianni (Chris). Seven grandchildren Brittany Morgan (Josh), Joshua Babjack, Alyssa Greenaway, Sara Greenaway, Alexandria Diianni, Brianna Diianni, Jackson Diianni and two great-grandchildren Angelina Morgan and Brody Morgan. Brother of the late Roberta Lacock, Naomi Robinson, and Georgenia Rees.

Joe cherished fishing on French Creek, playing cards, and always building and tinkering. Joe began working at Carnegie Mellon University in 1968 and worked his way from the maintenance department to the University's construction manager. His continuous drive, tenacity and passion for construction is a part of the campus' legacy. After managing 26 major construction projects at Carnegie Mellon, there is not a corner of that campus that was not improved because Joe's leadership. You can still find a monument dedicated to him in the Peace Garden on campus. After 42 years, he retired in 2010 to begin his retirement where he enjoyed camping and watching his family grow from 3 to many.

His greatest legacy was his 61-year marriage and the family Joe and Rose created together. He was a fighter for what he believed in and fiercely loved his family. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you would want to listen. His insights and intuition were beyond exceptional. These values were instilled in his family and while he is no longer with us, we will proudly pass these attributes on. His guidance and devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed, but the lessons, values, memories that he created will live for generations.

Our family would also like to extend our thanks to the Caring Heights staff in Coraopolis. We are grateful for the support and care that you provided our family over the past several years.

Friends and family will be welcomed to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, December 9, 2026 at 11:00 am at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Pittsburgh, PA 15136.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
